Cashis and the New West Movement

You may or may not have heard about him....but Cashis is one of Shady Records' newest talents that has yet to be unleashed on the hip hop industry. He is a very talented rapper who claims The O.C. but has some claims of being from Chicago as well.

Cashis has recently been working on various mixtape material, if you want to check it out go to Datpiff.com and do a search for Cashis. He's a pretty good lyricist and obviously Eminem sees something in him to invest time and a record contract into Cashis.

Cashis has been on the mixtape grind as of late and has been doing collaborations with various artists like G Unit, 50 Cent, Hot Rod, Dirty Blacc, Nate Dogg, Mistah Fab, and more. He's currently doing smaller time shows in various parts of the country for his Bogish Boy tours.

According to Cashis, he has worked on many songs with Eminem for his upcoming album and has also worked on songs for Eminem's new album. This is exciting to see, because the only commercial release with Cashis to date is "You Don't Know" from the Re-Up compilation album (featured Eminem, 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, and Cashis).

He is part of what he calls the "New West Movement" and his goal is to bring the West Coast back to the mainstream popularity that it once held when 2Pac was "king of the west". People who feel the same way and are trying hard to bring the West Coast back are The Game, Bishop Lamont, and a huge group of west coast artists.

With a bright future ahead of him, Cashis needs to take advantage of the Shady Records connection to build himself up into a million dollar asset for Shady Records and really bring the West Coast back.

What if Eminem was a mixtape rapper?

It seems to me that Eminem is an underachieving and extremely talented rapper. This is painfully obvious when you see his "business success" when you compare him to a far inferior emcee such as 50 Cent. I'm not hating on 50 either, 50 is a good emcee and very underrated, but Eminem has a status and respect that many legends in the game have taken notice.

When asked in a recent interview about 50 Cent and why he puts out mixtapes, he mentioned that Eminem thinks hes crazy for doing so. Eminem believes that if you put out mixtapes, its detrimental to your album sales and will cut out profits.

Sorry Mr. Mathers, but not everyone has to work as little as you to sell records.

Eminem put out that trash album Encore and it blew up. Slim Shady doesn't even have to try anymore to compile an album, he just has to put his name on it and it will go platinum because White America LOVES THIS MAN.

With talent like Eminem's, you can see that his business sense isn't the best. 50 Cent made himself a huge business leader and icon with a fraction of the pure talent. That says a lot about both of them; 50 Cent is a hustler and Eminem just flat out isnt.

If Eminem worked hard to secure business ventures and put out material to keep his name hot, the sky would be the limit. He would go from being in a position lower than 50 Cent to contending with Jay-Z for richest rapper.

What if Eminem put out mixtape material? You know that a lot of mixtape material now isn't the best, but it's for mixtapes. It's hot street material that you love to listen to, and what if Marshall actually applied himself to drop that so that his name would still be relevant? You have a lot of people now questioning his skills saying that he fell off...

If Em put out like 2-3 mixtapes a year with material comparable to Lil Wayne, you wouldn't have any more arguments about who the best rapper alive is...Eminem would probably destroy Wayne, and I'm a HUGE Wayne fan (no homo).

We can only hope that Eminem's upcoming CD will be worth the wait and that he finally realized putting out crap like Encore is insulting to the fans.

50 CENT DISAGREES WITH EMINEM ON MIXTAPES, NO BEEF WITH RICK ROSS

50 Cent admit that his disappearance from the mixtape circuit is what hurt him recently when he was advised to fall back by his label Interscope, and Eminem. They told him that he should stay away from mixtapes because they cut down his total sales since he's giving the material away for free. That was about the same time DJ Drama and Don Cannon were having problems with the RIAA raid.

50 realized his mistake and has dropped A LOT of new mixtape material in the last few months to make up for his absence.

He said that they (Eminem and Interscope) think he's crazy because of the mixtapes he does. He said in an interview how Eminem questions why he puts it out like that, and 50 explains to us that he couldn't be as hot as he is in the streets if he didn't put out the free material. He also explains that he will put out the best final product if he does the mixtapes to build the buzz.

Also recently online, 50 Cent had a Fat Joe Funeral after reading the soundscan numbers from Fat Joe's Elephant In The Room album that recently dropped. He went on to talk about Rick Ross on the video and many speculated that 50 was taking shots at Ross and warning him not to mess with 50.

Rick Ross is doing good," 50 explained in the interview. "I also complimented him that he had the #1 album. I said, 'Just don't stand too close to this fat piece of ...' I'm saying that because of what [Joe's] trying to do. He runs to Miami and hangs out with them like he's running Miami? Does Fat Joe run Miami? I don't think Fat Joe runs Miami. I think people from Miami would be upset you're even questioning that. The fact he can influence DJ Khaled on the radio, does that mean Fat Joe runs Miami? ... I don't care if [Khaled] ever plays my records. He's not important enough to what I'm doing for it to matter. Not to say Miami doesn't count. He doesn't count for it to matter to me."

What do you expect out of Eminem now?

There's been a lot of news springing up recently about Eminem's emergence back into Hip Hop. Personally, I have no idea what he's been doing for the past few years, but its probably something like hanging out with his daughter and sitting around a lot. This is purely speculative. Rumors were swirling around about how he got pretty chubby and let himself go, while other rumors talked about Eminem being a pill addict.

Honestly, I liked Eminem better when he was off the drugs which was around the same time as he was dropping all those tracks on the 50 Cent/DJ Green Lantern mixtapes. He was slowly turning into this mixtape rapper who put out ridiculous quality freestyles and raps on dope ass G Unit mixtapes.

However, Eminem quickly receded into doing nothing and did his Encore thing for a while but that was pretty bad. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone who thought that album was actually decent. Eminem stopped trying because rap was boring for him, and it was very visible. There were A FEW good tracks on that album.

What happened to Eminem from The Eminem Show? Or Slim Shady LP? I'm aware his style evolved across the two albums, but seeing one of those hungry mc's would be very appealing, especially for his rumored King Mathers coming out in the near future.

EMINEM RELAUNCHES CLOTHING LINE

Along with the rumors about Eminem working hard on his new album, we've also learned that Eminem relaunched the Shady Ltd. clothing line. There will be new ads coming out soon, and apparently Eminem has gone back and revamped the entire style and image of the brand. Expect big things from Shady within the next year...

BEST RAPPER ALIVE...?

With swagger taking the front seat in hip hop, who really is the best RAPPER alive?

I’m pretty sure it all started off on the Black Album. Jay-Z…Dirt Off Your Shoulder. Dope song. At the very end, you’d hear “Best Rapper Alive”. Prior to that, you never really heard anyone proclaiming that phrase as much as you hear it now. Jay-Z started once again another trend and the rest of us hip hoppers decided to follow. But we gotta ask the question…what is the criteria for the “best rapper”? Emcees have so many elements to their game that it’s very hard to narrow it down. Here is my list of qualities that should be taken into consideration and a list of possible candidates.

Qualities:

Lyricism – It all starts off with lyrics. If you can’t bring it as a rapper with your lyrics, why are you even wasting our time proclaiming your elite status? In order to be on contention for this award, you have to bring it lyrically every chance you get. Sometimes for rappers, it’s hard to stay focused because they do this so much, but you have to KNOW that this rapper is lyrically insane.

Flow – Flow sets the tone for how good the rap actually sounds. You could have the sweetest lyrics ever and the flow could be wack as hell. That kills the effect your lyrics could potentially have. Why even mess it up? Rappers who ride the beat perfectly and not only have good flow, but VERSATILE flows should make contention of being best rapper alive.

Wordplay – Metaphors, punchlines, and the whole sha-bang. As an elite rapper, you need these skills to be able to convey complex ideas without flat out saying them. Simply flat out saying them is no fun, we want creativity. Bring those sick lines and wordplay creativity into your lyrics to show us what you really got.

Swagger – no homo. This isn’t about judging peoples swagger, but maybe this isn’t the proper word. More like charisma. Rappers NEED to have charisma and confidence in themselves when they rap to even sound good. If they are unsure about themselves, the audience is not any “surer” about the rapper. Confidence is king, just like in sports. If rap is a competitive sport, swagger is a must.

Storytelling – We as an audience need to be visually appeased with slick wordplay but also storytelling. If the rapper can tell a great and cohesive story, then we can start talking “best rapper alive.”

Here is my list of contenders for Best Rapper Alive (subject to change in the future). I’ll give my arguments also…

Jay-Z – the originator of the phrase, so let’s make it simple. Jay is the man and has been for some time. His lyrics are great, even though he’s been somewhat lacking in recent years, his American Gangster LP really proved Hov is still the best. As long as Jay-Z is alive, it’s hard to find a rapper better than him. He still has the most versatile flows in the game along with that New York swagger that everyone loves to imitate. Jay isn’t as well known for his story telling, but if given the opportunity will tell you a very vivid story (Meet the Parents).

Lil Wayne – Ok I’m gonna catch a lot of hate for this one. Lil Wayne is a great rapper, even if you don’t happen to agree hear me out. He shows glimpses of greatness and at the same time shows glimpses of wackness. I blame it on the fact that he has too much material out, but that’s the price to pay for getting attention constantly. Weezy has the lyricism down to an art, great mutlis and wordplay that rivals Jay-Z. Currently, Weezy is the most boastful on the mic and proclaims “Best Rapper Alive” freely, even moreso than Jay. Lil Wayne was birthed from Jay, but has the student outshined the master?

Common – This dude is pure hip hop. His style, his lyrics, his metaphors that go over your head most of the time just create an amazing artist. Common makes amazing music that rivals Jay-Z in terms of content and even outdoes Jay in creativity. There really isn’t much bad to say about Common. His flow is smooth, and hes confident in what he does. He doesn’t have that dipset style swagger of Lil Wayne, but we know Common has that confidence to outshine others on this list.
Andre 3000 – Another guy who has a great flow, reminds me a lot of Lil Wayne but less gangsta. Andre has great metaphors and wordplay as well, and he always keeps it real on the mic in rhyming or storytelling. His swagger is completely different than most rappers and he stands out on any song he’s on. He doesn’t make this bold claim, but humility doesn’t downgrade him from being a possible best.

Eminem – This is up for debate seeing that Eminem has put out trash for the past few years. Since he basically took over the rap game around the time he signed 50 Cent and murked Ja Rule, Eminem has been going downhill but we all know he has the potential to destroy practically any MC. With his new album coming out, we have to make that judgment later.

Nas – Nas is a legend, who evolved his style from the great Rakim. Nas has a track record of being an amazing lyricist with great content, metaphors, and creativity. His swagger is high as well, but he sometimes is known to take losses when he gets unfocused on his song material. He can put out questionable stuff, but makes it up in the classics he writes as well. Flow is questionable at times and isn’t as versatile as Wayne or Jigga, but then again most people aren’t. Nas is no doubt in contention for best rapper alive.

Being the best rapper alive is a big deal especially in the very competitive rap game these days. Pride is everything; status is more than just an idea, and power means money. You may agree or disagree with my list but I tried to put out the most valid points. If you got any feedback, let me know what you think.

LIL WAYNE CLAIMS EMINEM IS "SCARED TO GET ON A SONG WITH ME"

Check out the newest Wayne interview, where he talks about getting love for his music outside the country and more on the Carter 3. Talks about how Kanye gave him a bunch of tracks and he had to ask Kanye to stop for a little while. Mentions that he gave Eminem a track, but Eminem never got on it because he was "too busy", or in other words, "scared to get on the song". He goes on to talk about his first single "Lollipop" and why he chose it as the first single for C3. The interviewer brings up Pimp C (RIP) and the sizzurp; talks about how fans think Wayne should stop, but Wayne reassures the fans that he's fine.

EMINEM WORKS WITH DJ PREMIER FOR NEW ALBUM

It has been reported in a recent interview with DJ Premier that Eminem has called him, requesting his services for a track on Eminem's up and coming album. DJ Premier used to be one of the main producers who you'd have to go to if you wanted to get a classic track for your album. Ask Jay-Z and Nas.

The new track is called "Keys To The City" and is definitely going to be on Eminem's upcoming album, with a possibility that this track will be released as a street single. This is the first time Eminem has ever put his signature flow over a DJ Premier beat.

According to Premo, the original song was produced by Eminem, but Eminem wasn't happy with it, so he called Premier to get his signature sound.

Premo goes on to say "Man…Eminem is back" and he calls the new track "ridiculous".

With legendary DJ Premier cosigning this newest track by Eminem, you know that it has to be epic.

DR. DRE GETTING SUED...BY BROTHERS WHO FOUND EMINEM

According to Allhiphop.com, Mark and Jeff Bass, the men who discovered Eminem in Detroit, MI have filed a law suit to Dr. Dre, Aftermath, and Interscope records. The reason for this law suit is that they claim Dr. Dre or the labels have failed to pay royalties due to the Bass brothers.

F.B.T. Productions and Em2M LLC say that Aftermath and Interscope have failed to pay $1 mil. in royalties from master recordings of some of Eminem's performances. F.B.T. Productions is owned by the Bass brothers and Em2M LLC is owned by Joel Martin, who runs Eminem's publishing company called 8 Mile Style.



F.B.T. signed Eminem to a deal back in 1995, and 3 years later, made a deal with Aftermath to allow them to have Eminem's services. According to F.B.T. and Em2M and their law suit, they were to receive a portion of all income from future Eminem projects and royalties earned would be paid to them. Apparently, the Michigan based companies claim that the labels billed them for expenses that should have been billed to Eminem.

The Bass brothers are being represented by Los Angeles based attorneys Paul H. Duvall and Mark Block. The companies seek an undisclosed amount of money in damages.

EMINEM'S MEMOIR...COMING THIS YEAR

Rapper Eminem is currently writing a book which, according to his publisher is, "every bit as raw and uncensored as the man himself".

The Associated Press reports that Dutton Books, a Penguin imprint, will release 'The Way I Am' in the autumn.

In a statement, Dutton Books said of the book: "It will be illustrated with never-before-seen photographs of Eminem's home and life along with original drawings."

The statement continued: "Offering a window on the star's private thoughts on everything from his music and the trials of fame to his love for his daughter, Hailie, this title is every bit as raw and uncensored as the man himself."

A spokesperson for the rapper said that the book was still being written and edited; the spokesperson said Eminem had no album scheduled for release at present.
