NERD HIP HOP...THE WAVE OF THE FUTURE?

A new breed of hip-hop was on display at the SXSW film festival 2008. Damian Hess, known as MC Frontalot, received a rock star greeting from his nerd core constituents at the festival on Sunday. He represents and is the leader of a new nerdcore hip hop movement which is shared with many other people.

According to Hess, his first time he ever ran into hip-hop was when he was at a YMCA Youth Camp in fourth grade listening to “Rappers Delight”. He wanted to play the song on the turntables again but was stopped and picked on because of his awkward looking coat.

Nerdcore hip-hop is supposed to be something like a mix between Star Wars or World of Warcraft with the elements of hip-hop, whether it be rhyming or dancing of some kind.

What he enjoys is that he has an audience who actually appreciates him for what he does. Despite his newfound stardom, he says he will never be “cool” and doesn’t have the personality to be the type of person who hangs out with celebrities like Lindsay Lohan.
